Stop Throwing Away Your Heaters
If you look at a spec sheet for waterproof pergola heaters, they all look the same. Same wattage, same look, same promises. But here’s the thing: the real difference doesn’t show up on a piece of paper. It shows up five years from now when a heating element finally burns out. With most units, you’re stuck with a sealed chassis. When one part dies, the whole thing is basically trash. You scrap the entire fixture and start over. We thought that was a waste, so we did it differently. The “Drop-In” Secret We went with a modular design. Instead of soldering wires or tearing apart a waterproof housing just to fix one part, our infrared tubes are simple drop-in replacements. The tube just slides into a bracket. You pull the old one out, pop a new one in, and you’re back in business in a few minutes. It’s fast. Really fast. And it means you aren’t spending a fortune replacing hardware that still works just because one tube gave up. The Battle Between Water and Heat Waterproofing is a tricky balancing act. You have to keep the rain out, but if you seal it too tight, the internal electronics can’t breathe and they’ll overheat. To fix this, we use IP-rated seals where the wires go in, but we kept the chassis vented. It lets the air flow through while keeping the rain where it belongs—outside. And since these live outdoors, we used quartz glass with a special coating. It keeps salt air and humidity from eating away at the surface, which is a huge deal if you’re anywhere near the coast. The Trade-off Now, making things modular isn’t “free.” It requires a lot more precision. Since the tube isn’t permanently fused to the frame, the brackets have to be spot-on. If there’s any wiggle room, the vibration can actually crack the tube when it heats up and cools down. That’s why we use reinforced alloys for the clips. They hold tight, year after year, so the tube stays exactly where it needs to be. It’s a much simpler way to handle things. Just keep a few spare tubes in your storage closet, and you can refresh your entire setup without ever having to buy a new housing again.
