
Getting Your Heat Right in PET Blowing
When you’re matching the heating curve of an OEM lamp, “close enough” just doesn’t cut it. If your infrared output is off by even a tiny bit, you’re looking at uneven preform heating. That’s how you end up with bottles that have weird wall thickness or that annoying pearlescent haze. We built our replacement lamps for the Sidel Matrix and SIG Blomax 4 specifically to stop that from happening. The nitty-gritty on the power We make sure our lamps mirror the exact wattage and voltage of the originals. Why? Because when you swap them in, the electrical load stays the same. You won’t have to mess around with your power controllers or worry about thyristors tripping. No recalibration, no headaches. If the voltage dips or the wattage spikes, your heat density shifts. We keep the spectral output locked onto the absorption bands of PET. That means the heat actually goes into the preform wall instead of just warming up the oven chassis. Fit and feel These are true drop-in replacements. We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking. Plus, we machined the connectors to tight tolerances. You can wire them up quickly without fighting the housing. We don’t do “generic fits.” We use the exact footprint needed for Sidel systems so the lamp sits dead-center in the reflector. If it’s even slightly off, you get cold spots in the preform. A few things to keep in mind High-wattage shortwave lamps pack a lot of heat. It’s what you need for high-speed lines, but it puts a real strain on your oven’s ventilation. Check your cooling blowers. Make sure they’re clean. If the airflow is blocked, heat builds up around the ends of the lamp, which eats away at the life of the quartz. And here’s a pro tip: keep those reflectors polished. It’s the best way to make sure you’re getting the full efficiency we built into the tube.
