Most people think of those infrared bathroom heaters as just a way to stop shivering when you step out of the shower. But there’s actually something much cooler happening under the hood. It’s not just about warmth—it’s about keeping your walls dry.
Why your walls get moldy
Here is the thing: standard heaters just warm up the air. The problem is that your walls stay cold. When that warm, steamy air hits a cold wall, it turns back into water. That’s where mold loves to hang out. We use shortwave infrared instead. Rather than heating the air, these waves hit your walls and floors directly. It bumps the surface temperature up just enough so that water can’t pool. The water evaporates way faster. It moves off the wall and into the air, which makes it easy for your vent to actually do its job and suck the moisture out. It’s a simple way to keep things dry without thinking about it.
The nitty-gritty on the build
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Steam gets everywhere. To stop these units from frying, we use tempered quartz glass and heavy-duty gaskets. If steam leaks into the guts of the heater, you’re looking at a short circuit or a dead filament. Not a great way to start your morning. We also go for high wattage. Why? Because nobody wants to wait ten minutes for a heater to warm up while the room turns into a sauna. These kick in instantly.
A few things to watch out for
Before you go installing one, there are two things you need to know. First, these lamps pull a lot of power. You can’t just plug them into your existing light switch and hope for the best. You’ll likely trip your breaker the second you flip the switch. Make sure your wiring can actually handle the load. Also, be careful where you put them. Since the heat is radiant, it’s intense. If the lamp is too close to plastic fixtures, you might actually melt or warp them. Give yourself at least 30cm of breathing room from anything that isn’t heat-resistant.
