Ever stepped into a bathroom with one of those infrared ceiling heaters and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Most of these lamps use short-wave radiation because it heats you up fast. But the trade-off is that harsh, blinding white light. It’s annoying for adults, and for a baby with sensitive eyes, it’s just too much. We figured there had to be a better way. Keeping the heat, losing the light The secret is in the coating. We apply a special layer to the quartz glass that acts like a filter. Think of it as a gatekeeper: it blocks out the aggressive blue and white light but lets the infrared warmth slide right through. You still get that cozy, instant heat on your skin, but the light stays soft. No more squinting or worrying about eye strain when you’re just trying to get warm. The honest trade-off Now, here is the thing. Nothing is perfect. To keep the bulbs from burning out quickly, we use halogen-filled tubes. They last longer and stay steady. But when you add that light-filtering coating, you lose a tiny bit of heat efficiency compared to a totally clear bulb. Is it a bit less powerful? Technically, yes. But in a home, safety and comfort are way more important than a few extra degrees of raw heat. It’s a trade we’re happy to make. A quick word on setup If you’re installing these or swapping out a bulb, just be careful. These things get hot—really hot. Make sure your housing is built to handle the heat so you don’t end up melting your plastic fixtures. And please,double-check the wattage. If you pop a high-wattage bulb into a low-spec socket, you’re asking for a wiring disaster. Stick to the right connectors (like the R7s) to keep the connection tight. It keeps things safe and prevents any nasty electrical sparking.
